Invisalign® Treatment in Davidsonville, MD
Clear Invisalign® aligners provide a more discreet, comfortable option than other orthodontic treatments. Traditional treatments that use metal brackets and wires can poke into the gums, creating pain and discomfort.
With Invisalign® treatment, we can address these orthodontic issues:
- Crowded teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Uneven teeth
- Misaligned teeth
We recommend Invisalign® for teenagers and adults who want to treat mild to moderate orthodontic problems. Before Invisalign® treatment, we must ensure you are in good oral health. We may recommend periodontal therapy or root canal treatment as needed to ensure that you are healthy enough for treatment.
Then, we will take intraoral scans of your mouth to plan your Invisalign® treatment. We will take and send dental impressions of your smile to a dental lab, where technicians create multiple Invisalign® aligners. Each pair of aligners are different. Once the aligners are complete, we will ensure that the first pair fit properly. You will wear each pair of aligners for about two weeks and then switch to your next pair. Because each pair of aligners differs, they will gradually shift the teeth into a straighter position. For the best results, we recommend that you wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day.
Caring for Invisalign® Aligners
During Invisalign® treatment, you must care for your aligners to prevent staining or bacterial buildup. There are multiple methods you can use to clean your aligners. You can soak your aligners in a mouthguard soak or use Invisalign® cleaning crystals. Avoid using abrasive materials to clean your Invisalign® aligners to prevent damage. Additionally, do not wear your aligners when eating or drinking. Wearing Invisalign® when eating can damage them, and drinking any liquids other than water can stain your aligners.
Once you complete the Invisalign® treatment, we will provide you with retainers. At first, you will need to wear retainers constantly. However, over time, you will only need to wear your retainers at night. Wearing retainers can prevent orthodontic relapse, which occurs when teeth shift out of place after orthodontic treatment.
