What Is Tooth Bonding?
Tooth bonding is a common dental treatment that can have many applications and is suitable for patients of all ages. Dr. Wooddell and Dr. Passaro may recommend the use of tooth bonding to address minor cosmetic concerns, tooth damage or to balance a bad bite by changing the shape or surface of a tooth. Tooth bonding can often provide an instant, economical smile makeover.
What Are The Benefits of Tooth Bonding?
Dental bonding can be used to improve teeth that are stained, chipped, cracked, misshapen or separated by unattractive minor gaps. Some of the benefits include:
- Little to no removal of enamel, retaining the health and natural structure of your tooth.
- Less extensive procedure than restorations like porcelain veneers or dental crowns.
- Can usually be completed in one appointment.
Tooth bonding can complement your natural appearance, enhance your smile, and restore dental health. Also known as composite bonding, tooth bonding is completed using a tooth-colored resin material that is carefully sculpted into place. It is completed in a single visit and most patients experience minimal to no discomfort during the procedure.
Although tooth bonding is a relatively simple dental procedure offered by most dentists, our team takes the time to thoroughly evaluate all aspects of your dentition and your occlusion so that your oral health is not compromised in any way. Drs. Wooddell and Passaro are not only experienced in the use of tooth bonding but are two of the most highly trained dentists in the Annapolis area for restorative dental care.
What Is The Process of Tooth Bonding?
The tooth bonding process is very similar to a dental filling- we even use the same type of material. We will begin by numbing the area to be treated and making sure you feel comfortable as we prepare the tooth and complete the process.
The next step is to prepare the tooth, or teeth, to be treated by etching the surface. Dr. Wooddell or Dr. Passaro will color match the composite resin material and gently sculpt it onto the tooth surface. Their experience and expertise mean that your result will support both the aesthetics and health of your smile. When we are pleased with the appearance of the bonding and the fit is good, we will permanently cure the resin material with a special UV light.
While not considered a permanent solution, tooth bonding can last for 10 years or more with good daily oral hygiene and routine dental care. Our team will monitor the integrity of your restoration at each visit and make appropriate recommendations should additional damage occur.
