The best thing for your smile, of course, is your oral hygiene habits; however, you can do even more to help promote your smile that will shine brightly for a lifetime. Not just that, but we have a way to hit two bullseyes with one dart so to say. We have compiled a list of changes that you can easily make to your diet that will improve not only your smile but also your overall health as well.

  • Polyphenol: It may seem like a complicated word, and it may be, however, polyphenol can be found in some delicious items that you can cheaply and easily add to your diet. Hopefully, you enjoy cranberries and tea, like black tea, green tea and cranberries are filled with polyphenols that will help prevent plaque from sticking to your gums and teeth.
  • Vitamin D: Milk does do a body good, but it also does a smile well. Vitamin D is vital in your quest for a perfect smile as it helps protect your teeth, and also helps with your general health. Try drinking a glass of milk per day as a bowl of cereal may be counterproductive as cereal is often high in sugar.
  • Leafy Greens: Spinach, Kale, Celery, Broccoli, and other leafy greens provide a lot of what your body and teeth need to function at a supreme level. They are rich in Vitamin A, B2, and B12. Try to eat this leafy greens inside of getting your dose of these vitamins through a supplement as eating these greens will health with weight loss as well if that is a goal.
  • Water: Water remains the best thing for your body and especially your smile. Water will help rinse away any bacteria or food that may be hiding out inside your mouth. Most counties in the United States have added fluoride to the water supply for your tap water, and fluoride has plenty of benefits for your smile. You can check with your local water company to see if your tap water has had fluoride added.
